Learn, play, and appreciate
Our intimate workshops are taught by
people who grew up at the table —
rooted in cultural context, open to every
level. Mahjong, American mahjong, or
both.
Tall stalks rooted deep in the earth — bamboo represents resilience and growth. One of the three classic suits, its vertical lines are among the most recognizable symbols in the game.
Ancient coins — round, stacked, and plentiful. The circles suit traces back to copper currency and carries meanings of wealth, luck, and the ever-turning cycles of fortune.
Ten thousand. The character 萬 means abundance beyond counting — prosperity, longevity, and endless possibility. The written soul of the game, carried in every hand.
Cornerstone of its own rich tradition. Introduced in the American game, jokers transformed the strategy entirely — and became the defining signature of a culture that made mahjong its own.

Who We Are
We grew up
calling it just
mahjong.
MixMix was founded by two Filipina-American women who learned the game the way most of us did — sitting with our titas, learning by watching, then by playing. No rulebook. Just tiles, noise, and love.

Co-Founder · Events & Community
Grace Geronimo
Grace grew up in a household where mahjong was never explained — it was just played. Her lolas and titas shuffled tiles at every family gathering, and she learned the rhythms long before she learned the rules. That feeling of belonging at the table is the whole point of MixMix.
She discovered American mahjong in her thirties and fell in love with how different — and how complementary — it felt. She leads our events, community programming, and the culture that holds it all together

Co-Founder · Lessons & Experiences
Marianne Rivera
Marianne's titas played loud and fast, and she had to keep up. Growing up Filipina-American, mahjong moved between languages, generations, and styles depending on who was at the table. She never called it Chinese mahjong. It was just mahjong.
She came to American mahjong through a friend's game night and became obsessed. Now she designs the lesson experiences and private events that make MixMix more than a class — a moment people remember.
